OAISI is running a range of programmes and events to help students engage with AI safety, some OAISI-specific, some in collaboration with Encode.

Recurring Events

  • Technical Roundtable: A discussion of AI safety research papers, held weekly on Mondays at 5pm. Apply here.

  • Governance Roundtable: Conversations on the latest in AI governance and policy, held biweekly on Tuesdays, starting in week 5. Apply here.

  • Tech & Tea: Informal discussions of AI policy and governance over tea, held biweekly on Tuesdays, alternating with the governance roundtable.

  • Office Hours: An informal space to drop in, ask questions, and meet the team, held weekly from Week 2. (Manor Road Building Cafe, 1:00-1:45pm).

AI Strategy Workshop Series (applications closed)

  • Session 1 (takeoffs, bottlenecks, & threat models): Week 4, Saturday, 8th November.

  • Session 2 (power, geopolitics, & “winning”: Week 6, Saturday, 22nd November.

  • Session 3 (AI futures wargame): Week 7, Saturday, 29th November.

One-off Special Events

  • Encode Start of Year Pub Social: 14th October, Tuesday.

  • Introduction to AI Safety, OAISI and Encode: Week 3 Wednesday, 15th October. (6:15pm, Gillis Lecture Theatre, Balliol College).

  • Neel Nanda Talk: Friday, October 17th, (6:30pm, Bill Roscoe Lecture Theatre, Department of Computer Science)

  • AI Safety Hackathon: Week 1, 25th October, Saturday, (10am-8pm, venue shared with attendees).

  • Encode AI Policy Workshop: Week 3, Monday, 27th October.

  • *Encode Games Night: Week 5, Thursday, 12th November.

  • Workshop Screening: “Making Good Research and Choosing Impactful Projects” Workshop by Michael Aird: Week 6, Friday, 21st November at Trajan House.
